The Treasurer has asked the ERA to undertake an inquiry into reform of state government business and occupational licensing.
The ERA has been asked to identify opportunities to improve business licensing arrangements generally, and priority areas for reform. The ERA will also develop an analytical framework and guideline that state government agencies can use to assess whether business licences are needed, well designed, and efficiently administered.
The inquiry began on 30 November 2017 and will finish on 22 February 2019, when the ERA will provide a final report, including recommendations, to the Treasurer.
Initial consultation period
In February 2018, the ERA published a paper providing an overview of the inquiry and consultation process, two consultation papers and a preliminary list of business licenses that are within the scope of the inquiry.
At that time, we also enabled stakeholders to provide responses to questions via an online platform.
