The Economic Regulation Authority (ERA) is the independent economic regulator for Western Australia.
The ERA regulates monopoly aspects of the gas, electricity and rail industries and licenses providers of gas, electricity and water services. The ERA also inquires into matters referred to it by the State Government. In addition, the ERA has a range of responsibilities in the retailing of gas and surveillance of the wholesale electricity market in Western Australia.
The ERA’s functions are designed to maintain a competitive, efficient and fair commercial environment, particularly where businesses operate as natural monopolies, for the benefit of the Western Australian community. In making its decisions, the ERA strives to ensure consumers receive quality services for a reasonable price.
