The Wholesale Electricity Market in Western Australia is established under the Electricity Industry (Wholesale Electricity Market) Regulations 2004 and is governed by the Wholesale Electricity Market Rules (Market Rules).
These Market Rules detail the roles and functions of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), System Management, the Independent Market Operator (IMO) and other governance bodies, and guide the operation of the market including the trading and dispatch of energy, the Reserve Capacity Mechanism and settlement.

The Rules were updated on 6 December 2017 due to omissions in the Market Rules arising from the application of the eight sets of Amending Rules in the Gazettes from 25 November 2015 to 30 June 2017.
