South32 holds an electricity generation licence to operate its alumina plant and coal-fired power station that generates steam for the plant which has a reported capacity of 114.5 megawatts. Electricity is generated as a by-product and is used to power the alumina refinery, with excess generation supplying electricity to Western Power's distribution network. The plant is located near Collie in the South West region.
The licence was originally granted to Worsley Alumina Pty Ltd and the trading name was changed to BHP Billiton Worsley Alumina Pty Ltd on 16 July 2009. The trading name was changed to South32 Worsley Alumina Pty Ltd on 10 July 2015.
