The Railways (Access) Code 2000 aims to ensure effective, fair and transparent competition on Western Australia’s railway network.
The railway networks covered by the Code comprise about 5,000 kilometres of track in the south-west of the State. This includes the urban passenger network and the standard and narrow-gauge freight network west of Kalgoorlie.
The Code also covers rail networks in the North-West, including The Pilbara Infrastructure railway network and the Roy Hill Infrastructure railway, both of which link remote mine-sites to Port Hedland.
The Code does not cover BHP and Rio Tinto's railway lines in the Pilbara, or the railway line east of Kalgoorlie linking Western Australia to the eastern States.
