The Gas Marketing Code of Conduct 2022 regulates how gas retailers advertise gas to customers throughout Western Australia. A statutory committee reviews the ongoing suitability of the Gas Marketing Code every two years.
On 19 May 2025, the ERA announced amendments to the Gas Marketing Code that will come into effect on 1 January 2026:
- Australian-first changes to regulate marketing statements comparing gas and electric appliances.
- New protections to make it easier for customers to make side-by-side comparisons of different gas plans using standardised basic plan information documents.
- Replaced marketer identification requirements with a more streamlined approach that applies equally to all marketing channels.
Our final decision is published below and details each of the changes, including how we have addressed stakeholder feedback during two rounds of public consultation. We have also published a set of frequently asked questions for retailers and consumers, and a set of templates to assist retailers preparing basic plan information documents.
