WEM and GSI Rule Change Panel

On 23 November 2016 the Electricity Industry (Wholesale Electricity Market) Amendment Regulations (No. 2) 2016, the Energy Industry (Rule Change Panel) Regulations 2016 and the Gas Services Information Amendment Regulations (No. 2) 2016 were published in the Western Australian Government Gazette

The regulations establish an independent Rule Change Panel that will be responsible for the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and Gas Services Information (GSI) Rules from April 3, 2017.

The Market Rules and GSI Rules are available on the legislation page of the ERA website.

Until 1 July 2017, Rule Changes will be made by the Minister for Energy.

Prior to the establishment of this panel, Rule Changes were managed by the Independent Market Operator (IMO) who was responsible for:

  • Developing the GSI Rules
  • Approving changes to the WEM Rules

Information about these functions and the ERA's new role are available below.
