Electricity Licensing

The ERA is responsible for:

  • issuing electricity licences to entities generating, transmitting, distributing or retailing electricity in Western Australia that are not exempt from the requirement to hold a licence (outside of the South West Interconnected System an integrated regional licence can apply to a party involved in one or more of the above activities).
  • approving Standard Form Contracts and the review and amendment of the Code of Conduct for the Supply of Electricity to Small Use Customers.
  • monitoring and reporting to the Minister for Energy on the operation of the licensing scheme, and compliance by licensees with their licences by arranging for regular performance audits and asset management system reviews.
  • monitoring the performance of electricity licensees through the annual collection of performance data, which is also used to prepare reports on the performance of electricity retailers and electricity distributors.
