Review of the Grain Marketing Act 2002 (Final Report in 2008)

The State Treasurer Eric Ripper asked the Economic Regulation Authority (ERA) on 29 November 2007 to inquire into the operation and effectiveness of grain marketing in Western Australia. The requirement for a review of grain marketing is prescribed by the Grain Marketing Act 2002.

In accordance with the Terms of Reference, the ERA has considered and reported on issues that could affect grain marketing in the State, including the effectiveness of the Grain Licensing Authority. The inquiry also analysed the net public benefit of the current framework, which includes restrictions on the export of ‘prescribed grains’ (barley, canola and lupins).

The ERA published an issues paper and a draft report to help interested parties understand the matters under review and to facilitate public comment and debate. Submissions in response to the issues paper and the draft report can be viewed on the public submissions page.

The ERA’s final report was provided to the Treasurer on 27 June 2008, with the report now available to the public.
