The Economic Regulation Authority (
ERA) has two distinct parts: the Governing Body and the Secretariat.
The Governing Body determines the policies of, controls the affairs of, and otherwise performs the functions of the ERA.
The Governing Body consists of a full-time Chairman (Head of the Governing Body) and such other members as the Governor of Western Australia considers necessary for the proper performance of the ERA’s functions.
The ERA’s Chairman is Mr Lyndon Rowe, who was appointed on 8 March 2004 for a period of five years. On 17 June 2008, Mr Rowe was reappointed for a further five years, from and including 8 March 2009.
The ERA has two part-time Members, Mr Steve Edwell and Professor Stephen King.
Mr Edwell was originally appointed for five years from 17 January 2006 and was reappointed for three years from 17 January 2011.
Professor King was appointed for a term of three years commencing 29 December 2010.
If the Chairman is unable to act for any reason, or if there is no Chairman, the Governor may appoint a person nominated by the Minister as the Alternate Chairman to act in the Chairman’s place.
The ERA has responsibility for carrying out the functions of the ERA as set out in the Economic Regulation Authority Act 2003.
