Licensing

The Economic Regulation Authority (ERA) is responsible for issuing, designing and assessing licensees. The ERA also provides various customer protection arrangements and monitors/enforces licensees' compliance. The ERA can inform the relevant responsible Minister(s) about any failure by a licensee to meet performance criteria or other requirements of its licence on the operation of the licensing schemes.

Electricity Licensing
The ERA issues electricity generation, transmission, distribution, retail and integrated regional licences in Western Australia. Those wishing to supply electricity to customers consuming less than 160MWh each year are required, if not exempt, to have a retail licence.
Gas Licensing
The ERA issues gas trading and distribution licences in Western Australia. Those wishing to supply gas to customers consuming less than 1TJ each year are required, if not exempt, to have a trading licence.
Water Licensing
The ERA issues water service licences to entities supplying potable water, non-potable water, sewerage and drainage services in Western Australia that are not exempt from the requirement to hold a licence.
